Monday 10th of November

Welcome to Week 2 of the 30 Day Reset!

We have ten people aiming to better themselves by making recovery a priority in their lives. We’re so keen to hear from each person about how they felt after the challenge.

My takeaway from the first week is that it’s actually easier than you think to fit in recovery. I know what you’re thinking — you work there! Yes, that’s true, but that’s also partly why it can sometimes be hard to fit in recovery. After spending pretty much all day in the studio, I don’t always want to stay longer — I want to go home and escape my endless to-do list. It also means coming into work on my days off, but I’m coming in to better myself.

These are all such minor problems, and I need to just get over them because the positive outcome always outweighs the inconvenience.

On Saturday at 7 am, we supported Mo.Ve for Resilience, a Movember fundraiser where people, individually or as part of a team, complete 60 km in 24 hours. Dad and I met the brave runners who faced the rain, cold, and wind on Saturday and provided them with compression boots, massage guns, and a chance to warm up in the sauna between runs.

I also joined the crew for my first-ever 10 km run with no real training — I just wanted to join in the fun. Sarah joined as well and certainly kept up a lot better than I did!

It took the group an hour to run the 10 km; it took me 1 hour and 20 minutes, with a few detours, walk breaks, and some laps around the oval to get it done. I felt embarrassed at the beginning — how quickly I fell behind and how hard I was breathing. But then I remembered: I didn’t start this thinking I could be as fast as them. I started because I wanted to see if I could do it, and that just meant not giving up. I kept setting myself small goals such as “run to the tree,” “walk to the stop sign,” and “run until you can’t again.” It was really, really hard — but I did it, and I’m super proud of myself for not giving in to the negative self-talk and embarrassment I was feeling.

I’ve really been enjoying writing these updates and sharing what I’ve been learning about recovery. I’d love to share some of our clients’ stories too, as well as what you’ve learned in your journey with Recovery Lab Mornington.

If you’re up for a chat, email studiomanager@recoverylab.com.au — I’d love to hear about your experience. Also, send through any ideas or topics you’d like to read about. All my previous blog posts can be accessed here.

Just a reminder that we still have the Early Bird Packs available and 1/2 Price Saturdays running until the end of November. Call or text 0499 924 909 for any information regarding them.

See you in the Lab!
